We are the Designer’s Designer
A recent post about working with other designers brought up A LOT of questions in our community…
We get it. Your first reaction is, “What?! Isn’t that your competition?” BUT let us explain why not every designer is the same. The first rule of thumb is decorators are not designers but designers can be decorators. Even in our own community designers and decorators confuse services; which leads to mismanaged expectations and miscommunication all around. The kicker is decorators and untrained designers don’t even understand the services that they are missing that are critical when making big design decisions to save time, money and upset during a large renovation project.
We work with other decorators and “designers” so that they can provide the best possible outcome to their clients. Here are a few ways we help:
📏 The power of an accurately dimensioned, to-scale blueprints. In the real world inches matter: for code compliance, ADA clearances, path of travel, storage allocations, work flow variances and so much more. It is hands down the most important starting point.
🧱 Detailed 2D elevations are your design building blocks. You can visualize tile layouts, work through cabinet functions, determine lighting locations, and get intricate millwork details all before you start making costly mishaps winging it in the field. These are quicker and much for efficient ways to figure out the details without a full rendering. Yes, they can even be colorized!
🎨 Finish selection so you don’t have those “whoopsie” moments and wish that your paint color was a little more compatible, your floor a little less trendy grey, your lighting doesn’t cause shadowing and focuses on where you’re actually working, your built-ins work for your storage needs not just look good in your space, and of course your pillows more complimentary to your custom window treatments. Creating a finish board of all the materials and inspiration in your room will keep you on budget, on time, and on track for a complete designer look.
🔮 Nothing is more reassuring than a true 3D rendering. You can see the way colors work together, determine if function will be appropriate, and sometimes catch design omissions (things you might not have thought about or didn’t even know you’d need to discuss) before demo even begins. Helping to prevent those “Oh, I didn’t think that’s what it was going to look like” or “I didn’t picture it that way in my head” let downs.
🏠 Take the guessing game out of finding reliable, honest and professional trades. We have been doing this a long time and know a lot of great companies to work with and the ones that maybe talk a good game but don’t deliver with their actions. We share them with other designers too — good work needs to be recognized and referred!
Not every designer has the technical skills to complete large scale projects, but they have the vision in creating beautiful environments for their clients. We love seeing our fellow decorators and designers succeed. If we can assist in having their clients enjoy the design process, as well as, making their work load lighter then we’re happy to help. Bottom line, it’s not a competition, we’re a community — let’s succeed together. http://www.prbdesigns.com/let-s-talk--.html
